A US based professional painter. Born in 1947 in Beijing, China. Graduated from the affiliated school of Central Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing on 1967. Since 1973, he began teaching in Fine Art Department, Shanghai Normal University and later in College of Fine Arts, Shanghai University. During the late 70’s and 80’s, His paintings exhibited almost yearly in the city and nationwide. He was also very active to illustrate magazines and published many children’s storybooks.
In 1988, Steele Xiang immigrated to United States to advance his art career. He graduated from Academy of Art College in San Francisco on 1990. From 1989 to 1993, he created a series of Chinese Genre; another series of Girl and Nature, both are in medium of ink and gouache on rice paper, also oil on canvas; in style of a mixture influence from western art, oriental art, as well as folk art. Since 1994, Steele Xiang returned back to western realistic painting style in oil. He has created series of California golden hills landscape, sea harbor and boat landscape, China water canal landscape and Tibetan figurative which became quite popular among collectors. He has been represented by galleries through out United States and has held many solo gallery shows in past two decades. Also he was an award winner in prestigious California Art Club Golden Metal Shows. Steele Xiang’s works are housed in private and corporate collections in United States, also in Europe, Japan and Taiwan.
